Arcology
Arcology was coined by Paolo Soleri as a set of
architectural design principles. These principles describe the design of
enormous hyperstructures with extremely high population densities.
Hyperstructures, also known as megacities, are self-contained cities with
residential, commercial, and light industries. The purpose of such structures
is to minimize the ecological footprint made by humans and help solve
overpopulation. These structures are often practice a form of autarky, or
complete independence from the rest of the world. A person would never need to
leave the structure during their lifetime.
