CITIC Plaza
The CITIC Plaza is an 80 story, 391 meter (1283 ft) tall office building and skyscraper located in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China. The building has 598 rooms and 36 elevators. The design of the tower was done by the architectural firm of Dennis Lau & Ng Chun Man Architects & Engineers. Construction on the CITIC Plaza began in 1993 and was completed in 1997.
CITIC Plaza is the world's tallest concrete building. It is also the eighth tallest in the world, behind Taipei 101 (Taipei, Taiwan), Shanghai World Financial Center (Shanghai, China), Petronas Towers (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), Nanjing Greenland Financial Center (Nanjing, China), Sears Tower (Chicago, U.S) Jin Mao Building (Shanghai,China), and Two International Finance Centre, (Hong Kong). The skyscraper is also the seventh tallest in Asia and the fourth tallest in China behind the Shanghai World Financial Center, Nanjing Greenland Financial Center and Jin Mao Building.
CITIC Plaza is located in the bustling Tianhe District and city of Guangzhou. Guangzhou, formerly known as Canton, is the capital of Guangdong Providence, located in the South China, 200 kilometers north of Hong Kong. The city has a population of 4 million and is one of China's expanding cities with many skyscrapers.
The office building is part of the CITIC complex which also includes two 142-meter, 38 story apartment buildings and a four story shopping mall. It is also nearby a new train station serving the Guangzhou-Hong Kong and Guangzhou-Shenzhen railways. The Tianhe Sports Centre is also nearby, the site of the 6th National Games and the upcoming 2010 Asia Games. There are also many restaurants and other commercial buildings in the area, including Guangzhou Books Center and Teem Plaza. The CITIC complex is named after the China International Trust and Investment Company, which is a state-owned company that was established by the People's Republic of China's government to encourage investment in China.
