Skyscraper Map List
The Skyscraper Maps, created by
Patrick Lundberg, were designed to show the distribution of skyscrapers around
the world. Exact info about individual buildings can be found at
Emporis.com. The maps are accurate as of 2008 and are updated annually.
Rules and Explanation
The rules are different for each continent. The
reason is that there is a wide disparity between the seven continents. For
example, there are many supertalls in the Middle East while there are very few
in Europe. The aim was to fill out the space for countries with few skyscrapers
while avoiding overcrowding for cities with large. The main rule is that all
buildings shown are approximately 200m to the roof. In places with many
supertalls, the limit is 250m. It is just 150m for continents with few
skyscrapers.
Cities with no buildings over 200m (approximately 656.16 feet) are not shown
with buildings on the map.
In some cities that have many buildings over 200m there is no space to show all
these buildings. In that case, the 3-5 tallest or most important ones are shown.
The buildings belonging to a certain city are always placed above the name of
the city. This makes it impossible to misunderstand where a certain building
drawing belongs. TV towers and churches are not included, only high-rises,
except for towers (not masts) which are more than 300m (app. 984 feet) tall and
churches over 150m.
Buildings under construction and on hold are included, but not proposed
buildings. The illustrations are made by several illustrators from
SkyscraperPage.com, all of them are listed below.
Exceptions: If there is a mast that makes the building’s total pinnacle height
taller than 200m, the building can be included even if the roof height is
lower. Some important monuments and towers are also shown. Note that some
buildings are missing. We need more illustrators to contribute with their
drawings. If you are interested, please contact All About Skyscrapers.com at
