Statistics
- Five states — California, Georgia, Illinois, New
York and Texas — have their tallest buildings over
1,000 ft (305 m). Another five states — Maine, North
Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming — have
their tallest buildings less than 250 ft (76 m).
- All but nine buildings are office buildings. Of
the nine buildings that are not office buildings,
four are hotels/residential buidlings, four are
government buildings, and one is a church.
- All but eight states have their tallest building
located in their largest city. The states that don't
have their tallest building in their largest
metropolitan area are Connecticut, Mississippi,
North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Vermont , Virginia and
Alabama
- All but three of these eight states —
Mississippi, Vermont and Virginia — have their
tallest building in their second largest city.
- Mississippi has its tallest building in its
third largest city — Biloxi; Vermont has its
tallest building in its capital — Montpelier;
and Virginia has its tallest in its capital and
third largest city — Richmond and Alabama's
tallest building is located in Mobile which is
the second largest city in the state, Birmingham
is the largest city in Alabama.
Of these 50 buildings,
- Five starts with the word One
- Two starts with the word First
- Three contain Bank of America
- Three contain US Bank
- Two contain Bank One
- Three contain Wells Fargo
- Two use their address as the name of the
building — New Jersey's 30 Hudson Street and
Iowa's 801 Grand
- Three are state capitols — North Dakota,
West Virginia and Wyoming. However, South
Carolina's Capitol Center is an office building.
